Fields: Bulk Edit Metadata
At times, you might want to edit the metadata of multiple digital assets at once. Use the Edit Metadata option in the Bulk Action drop-down to do this.
Assets > Bulk Edit Metadata
Number of files
Displays how many files you have selected to edit. This is located at the top of the page to the right of the page title.
Metadata Template
Allows you to select a metadata template to apply to assets you have selected to edit. See Managing metadata templates for more information on metadata templates.
When you select a template, the required and optional metadata fields will be updated in accordance to the template chosen.
Required Metadata
Allows you to enter metadata for pre-defined metadata fields that are required for the selected template.
By default, the metadata entered here will be added to the previous metadata associated with that field. If you select the Overwrite option, all information associated with that metadata field will be replace with the new information.
Note: You must enter data into any required fields in order to save your changes and update the selected assets.
Additional Metadata
This section allows you to manage the optional metadata fields for the selected template. Unlike Required Metadata, optional metadata fields can be added, removed, or changed.
Metadata field name
Allows you to select which metadata field you want to edit. The drop-down list includes the Dublin Core metadata fields at the top of the list and any user-configured metadata fields below the Dublin Core fields. The search field metadata fields include the metadata name followed by the search field name (in parentheses). "None", in parentheses, indicates that no search field has been mapped to the metadata field. For more information about mapping a metadata field to a search field, see Managing metadata fields.
Metadata text
Allows you to enter information that will be associated with the corresponding metadata field for the selected assets.
Note: The text field can hold up to 2 GB of data.
Additional Metadata options
Lets you add metadata fields, specify how metadata should be added, and remove metadata fields.
Option | Description |
---|---|
Add Row |
Creates a row in the metadata table. When you create a row in the metadata table, a drop-down list and a text field display. Select the desired metadata field, then type the information for that field in the corresponding text field. |
Overwrite |
Allows you to specify that you want to replace any information associated with the selected metadata fields with the information added during the editing process. If you select this box, all information associated with that metadata field will be replaced with the new information. If you do not select the box, then the new information will be added to the previous metadata associated with that field. Note: To delete the information in a metadata field from multiple assets, clear the text field associated with that metadata field and select Overwrite. |
Remove |
Deletes the selected row in the metadata table. This option does not delete the metadata but rather ensures that the removed field is not changed in the bulk editing process. |
